Controversial prince documentary film canceled through dispute
The Netflix documentary series about the prince by Oscar filmmaker was canceled after the property of the late singer blocked his release.
Completed, but without a title, Ezra Edelman was postponed in 2024 after representatives of the Prince’s estate looked at the cut and claimed that he had factual mistakes and that he had sensationalized parts of the singer’s life, Variety said.
Netflix and The Estate said on Friday that the project had been abolished, under an agreement that would last “develop and produce a new documentary with exclusive content from the prince’s archive,” the joint statement said.
