Chief Aston Villa Unai Emery is looking forward to the “huge challenge” that Marcus Rashford returns to his best.
The 27-year-old joined the Villa on loan from Manchester United until the end of the season, with the possibility of a permanent transfer of the summer.
Rashford left his boyish club after freezing under the new boss Ruben Amorim, and his performances have stagnated in the last few years.
It is within the frame to make his debut against Tottenham in Sunday Fourth Circle of FA Cup.
‘Rashford’s challenge is exciting’
“I’m very pleased with the window we made, I’m very pleased with him,” Emery said. “The conversation I took with him was a very normal conversation with the player and coach, talking about football.
“I only want the best football of him. As a person, as well as in the locker room, as another player helps us.
“I think his potential is a huge potential for exploitation. I don’t want to know the reason why he leaves Manchester, but I’m very happy to keep him here.
“I am very happy to try to use and help him recover his performances, individually and collectively. My challenge with him is huge. His challenge with us is exciting.”
Amorim publicly questioned Rashford’s training, saying Thursday that “he can’t get Marcus to see the way you should play football and train the way I see it.”
Emery was not ready to look too far into the future whether Rashford’s long -term future would be in Villa Park.
“He trained fantastic today, tomorrow, again, Sunday’s match,” he said on Friday. “We will enjoy every step, and then the future is built only with the present.
“If we try to get the future before building the present, it is impossible, if we do, we will collapse.”
Watkins to miss the spurs clash
Villa will be without Ollie Watkins to visit Tottenham after injuring his groin in last week’s defeat in Wolves.
However, Emery hopes to be available in the next week.
“It’s important for him every day,” the Spaniard said on Friday.
“He will not be available for Sunday because he has not trained today, and he will not train tomorrow because he has to recover for next week that he will be available.”
Tyrone Mings defenders, Pau Torres and Matty Cash will also miss against Spurs, along with the midfielder Rosso Barkley.
