Eid Forest, a local police chief, said large rooms at school meant that it took a long time for police officers to search the campus to ensure that there were no more casualties. The police heard the shootings when they arrived and thought they had been discharged, he said.

“We have witnessed a brutal, deadly violence against completely innocent people today,” Prime Minister told Stockholm reporters late Tuesday. “This is the worst mass shooting in Swedish history. Many questions remain unanswered, and I cannot give those answers.
“But there will be a time when we will know what happened, how it could happen and what motives may be behind it. We don’t speculate,” he said.
Although weapons violence in schools is very rare in Sweden, people have been wounded or killed by other weapons such as knives or axes in several incidents in recent years.
The ownership of weapons is legal in Sweden but in the country Firearms are strict, with “the right to own weapons, even in the purpose of protection”, which requires a license that is approved only with the explicit approval of the police, which must be reported before any intended purchase.
The owners of licensed weapons must carry their documentation with them at any time when they are in possession of firearms, and the laws of the country cover not only weapons but also the weapons that shoot or arrange a tear gas.
