The Grammy 2025 awards were opened with a special performance by Los Angeles Dawes, two brothers whose homes were destroyed in recent fires.
The duo was joined on stage by former Grammy winners, including Sheryl Crow, John Legend, Brad Paisley and Brittany Howard to perform the classic song by Randy Newman and Love La.
“It is often said that in the darkest times the best humanity is, and people from Los Angeles are currently a perfect example of this,” said the host Trevor Noah, introducing performance.
“So, tonight we decided that we would not just celebrate our favorite music. We also celebrate the city that brought us that music so much.”
The comedian, who hosts the ceremony for the fifth time, said that “just a few weeks ago we were not sure that this show would happen at all.”
“Fortunately, because of the heroic efforts of firefighters, the fires are now contained, and despite all the desolate, the spirit of the city has appeared,” he added, with generous applause.
Several firefighters have invited awards to pay tribute to their efforts; and walked on the red carpet, getting selfies with the biggest stars in music.
Born from Los Angeles Billie Eizsh was another artist on stage, playing her song nominated for Grammy bird feathers against a background inspired by natural beauty in California.
“I love you la,” she said as the music ended.
Ceremony raises money for those affected by what Noah called “one of the greatest natural disasters in the history of the US”; And the organizers handed over some of their time to advertise local companies for free while trying to renew.
