Ethiopia in Israel: Secret Travel | Migration
The secret transportation of thousands of Ethiopian Jews in Israel in the 1980s by Mossad and CIA.
Isolated from most of Judahism for centuries, and now it has been discriminated against in Israel today. This is the story of an ancient Jewish community, usually known as Falash Jews – primarily from Ethiopia – and secrets, politically controversial smuggled operations that brought them from Sudan to Israel in the 1980s. At the end of the 20th century, the Jews of Falash (known as Beta Israel) faced persecution and famine, which encouraged significant emigration to Israel.
However, the Arab and many African states did not recognize Israel – so that countries like Ethiopia and Sudan could not openly see themselves to help Israel reinforce their population. Thus, Mossad and the CIA performed a secret surgery Moses to transport thousands of Ethiopian Jews from refugee camps in the Sudanese desert. When these missions were discovered, they caused huge political outbursts in Sudan. Furthermore, the Jews of the Falash who arrived in Israel were marginalized and still confront the challenges by integrating themselves into Israeli society.
