Spurs are closing in on signing the £25m powerhouse
When it rains, it pours, which is undoubtedly true for Tottenham Hotspur.
North Londoners Premier League The campaign went from bad to worse again at the weekend as they tried to overturn a 1-0 lead at home to relegation-threatened Leicester City, losing 2-1.
Defensively for the Lilywhites, they are still missing most of their front line, several midfielders and now their main striker Dominik Solankewhich is confirmed to be out of the machine “about six weeks” on Thursday.
In his absence, Ange Postecoglou had to start Richarlison, and while he scored, his record 18 goals and nine assists in 77 games for the club suggests he cannot be relied upon to lead the line although, in a positive development, recent reports have linked the club with a centre-forward who was better than Solanke last term.
Tottenham are targeting a European striker
According to a recent report from print edition of Record via TEAMtalkTottenham are one of several teams interested in Ajax striker Brian Brobbey.
Apart from the Lilywhites, the report revealed that Premier League runners-up West Ham United are keen on bringing in the Dutch forward, as are Serie A giants AS Roma.
However, while the competition is strong, the story claims that Spurs are ‘closer to a deal’ for the 22-year-old, and while Ajax would prefer to complete a £25m sale this month, a loan-to-buy deal now looks more likely.
It’s a lot of money to commit to a player who has been underwhelming for most of this season, but Brobbey was incredible last year and with Solanke as long-term first choice, signing the Dutchman as a promising back-up seems like a gamble worth taking.
Why Spurs Should Sign Brobbey
So the first thing to say is that, yes, this season has been undeniably bad for Brobbey.
In all, the Amsterdam-born poacher has amassed approx three goals and seven assists in 29 games for Ajax, although, while it certainly doesn’t look great, he only played 1,364 minutes of football in those appearances.
That means that while he averaged a goal every 2.9 games, he also averaged one every 136.4 minutes, which is far less concerning, especially since we know he can be even more productive than that based on his form last year.
For example, in 43 appearances for a total of 3,369 minutes, the free-scoring powerhouse, as he called it U23 scout Antonio Mangohe found the back of the net on 22 occasions and recorded 12 assists lifting.
Therefore, despite being only 21 years old at the start of the campaign, an average seven-cap international participation in a goal every 1.26 games or every 99.08 minutes.
Not only is this level of results seriously impressive in itself, it’s more than Solanke managed to achieve in the same campaign.
For example, in his last season with Bournemouth, the 28-year-old striker scored 21 goals and four assists in 42 appearances, a total of 3553 minutes, which is an average of every 1.68 games, or every 142.12 minutes.

There is a big caveat here that the Eredivisie is a far easier league, but the fact that the former RB Leipzig ace has managed to amass such success at such a young age is undoubtedly promising.
What’s more, as he would be joining the North Londoners to back up the former Cherries striker rather than replace him, there would be far less pressure on him to currently reach the dizzying heights he achieved last season.
Ultimately, Tottenham need a new striker to cover for Solanke now and when he’s fit again, and while he hasn’t set the world alight this season, signing a loan deal to buy Brobbey seems like a smart move, especially given that the reported price isn’t excessive darling.
