Ruben Amorim slams Marcus Rashford as Man Utd exile continues

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim insisted he would rather play his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach than Marcus Rashford after taking another shot at the exiled forward’s training level.

Rashford was again left out of the matchday squad Sunday’s win over Fulham 1-0 and has not featured for United since December 7, with the Red Devils ready to entertain offers for his services this month.

While Amorim previously refused to close the door on a possible Rashford return, he gave his harshest assessment of the striker yet after the final whistle when asked why he was not back in the squad.

“It’s always the same reason,” Amorim began. “The reasons are training, the way I see what a footballer should do. In training, in life, it’s every day, every detail. So, if things don’t change, I won’t change either.

“It’s the same situation for every player. If you give your maximum, if you do the right things, we can use every player.

“And you can see that today on the bench – we lack a bit of pace to get going, to change the game, to move some pieces, but I prefer it that way. I will put [goalkeeper coach Jorge] Importantly before I put a player who doesn’t give maximum every day so I won’t change in that.”

Rashford did not respond to Amorim’s comments after the game, but took to social media to congratulate his teammates on the win.

United they want to find a buyer for Rashford, whether permanent or temporary, but the options available to the England international are limited and Barcelona they are believed to be the only viable suitor going into the final week transfer window.

Barcelona want to sign Rashford on loan but must sell players to make room in their wage budget before making an offer.
