Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is reportedly at odds with his board over potential sale of Kieran Trippier.

The veteran full-back is a useful player for the Magpies, even if he is no longer one of the first names on Howe’s squad list.

Trippier is attracting transfer interest from a number of clubs abroad, according to a report in the Sun, with clubs in La Liga, Turkey and the Saudi Pro League said to be keen to lure him away from St James’ Park.

Newcastle ready to SWOOP for elite striker!

Newcastle look set to cash in on Trippier this January, and he won’t be short of offers, but Howe appears to be pushing the club’s management not to let the former England international leave.

NUFC may have Tino Livrament and Lewis Hall in the full-back positions, but Trippier is useful protection in both positions.

It would certainly be unwise for Newcastle to let such an experienced player go mid-season when he will surely be needed at some point.

Howe will no doubt be aware that the games will come thick and fast, and he will need to rotate his side at times to keep up with all the fixtures.

As well as chasing European qualification in the Premier League table, Newcastle also have the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup to think about.

Trippier will certainly be tempted to accept big money from elsewhere if he comes, while he may not want to be just a backup player at this stage of his career.

It will be interesting to see how this saga plays out in the weeks ahead and whether Newcastle and Howe can agree a player.
