Rising left-back responds to Liverpool transfer links
Senegal left-back El Hadji Malick Diouf admitted it “sounds nice” join Liverpool, but insists he is “in no rush” to decide on his next move at this early stage of his career.
Diouf only celebrated his 20th birthday last month, but has quickly risen to prominence this season playing for Slavia Prague in European league.
It has been a struggle for the Czech club in European competition, but Diouf’s playing as an attacking left-back has earned him six goals and three assists in the Czech First League as Slavia race towards the national title.
Transfer links from Liverpool have emerged as the Reds begin to consider the future after Andrew Robertson, who will turn 31 in March and it is no longer at its peak his powers.
Diouf seems to have a calm head on his young shoulders after all.
“I see what’s happening around me, but it definitely doesn’t bother me. I’m focused on myself, on Slavia, I have no reason to rush. I told my uncle, the agent, that. He knows everything,” the young man told the Czech media and TODAY.
“I know that one day I will take the next step. That day is coming, but I have to be convinced that it happens at the ideal moment so that I don’t slow down my development,” he added, expressing concern that the wrong move could result in him playing less football.
“I don’t know if he will [Liverpool interest] is true. Sounds nice, but would I play for Liverpool? Would I fit in there? It is important for me not to stop. It is difficult to move from the substitutes’ bench. I have to play.”
