Shreyas Iyer has been ripped apart by a FORMER Pakistan cricketer over the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy failure.

Former Pakistan cricket team player Basit Ali attacked Indian national cricket team striker Shreyas Iyer for his failure in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match against Jammu and Kashmir.

He said that a batsman must only play white ball cricket if he does not understand the need of the situation.

Mumbai had a poor performance with the bat in the ongoing match against Jammu and Kashmir in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy.

The team, filled with superstars Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer and others, scored all for just 120 runs.

Shreyas Iyer batted at a strike rate of 157.14 and scored just 11 runs off seven balls

Shreyas Iyer took special notice of Basit Ali. The Mumbai batsman couldn’t get going as he managed just 11 runs off seven balls. He looked to attack despite wickets falling at the other end as he tried to hit boundaries.

Shreyas Iyer batted at a strike-rate of 157.14, hitting one four and a six before getting out. Mumbai were 42 runs for six and then the wicket of the batsmen left them reeling at 47/7. Fortunately, Shardul Thakur scored a half-century to take the team to a total of 120 runs.

If red cricket is happening, play it like red cricket, this is my simple advice – Basit Ali

Basit Ali attacked Shreyas Iyer for playing attacking cricket, saying the batsmen came out in front of him and he attacked, which was wrong. He said he should play red ball cricket like a red ball. Speaking in a video posted on his YouTube channel, he explained:

“Iyer made 11 runs off 7 balls. It’s a four-day game. Three batsmen are dismissed in front of you. Play white-ball cricket in that format. If red-ball cricket is happening, play it like red-ball cricket.” This is my simple advice, we’ll see what he does in the second innings.”

When playing so many players, Shreyas Iyer has to score a hundred – Basit Ali

Basit Ali spoke about the poor performances of the Indian national cricket team’s batsmen in the ongoing 2024-25 Ranji Trophy. He said the reason for concern is that the team’s players are not scoring runs. He elaborated:

“Rohit Sharma is out, Jaiswal is out, Gill is out, Iyer is out. It’s four-day cricket. When so many players are playing, Iyer has to score a hundred, Rohit has to score a hundred, Jaiswal, Gill, even Pujara is playing, will everyone score?”

In the ongoing 2024-25 Ranji Trophy, Rohit Sharma has failed to get going. He made three runs off 19 balls while Jaiswal scored just four runs off eight deliveries. Shubman Gill managed to score just four runs for Punjab while Rishabh Pant, playing for Delhi, managed just one run.
