Australia’s Optus is considering selling its sports streaming service to Nine, reports AFR By Reuters

(Reuters) – Singapore Telecommunications-owned Optus, Australia’s second telco, is looking to sell its sports streaming platform Optus Sport to media house Nine Entertainment, the Australian Financial Review (AFR) reported on Monday.

The potential deal would give streaming rights for the English Premier League to Nine’s local streaming service Stan, while allowing Optus to focus on its core telecoms assets, the report said, citing sources familiar with the talks.

Optus, Nine Entertainment and SingTel did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment.

The AFR report comes after DAZN bought cable TV platform Foxtel for A$3.4 billion ($2.11 billion) last month, which will allow the British-owned sports network to enter the Australian market with rights to the Australian Football League and the National Rugby League.

($1 = 1.6100 Australian dollars)
