Spurs are in talks to sign the next Harry Kane

This season was quite difficult Tottenham Hotspur and their existing fans.

A positive way of looking at it is that Ange Postecoglou are still in three cup competitions, but in Premier Leaguethey have lost more games than they have won and are closer to the relegation zone than Champions League places, which is a pure disaster.

However, kudos to them, the club clearly bring the manager back for the long termand with the right recruiting to develop alongside Archie Gray, Mikey Moore and Lucas Bergvall, he could build something special that turns this year into nothing more than a bang.

That seems to be the mindset Daniel Levy and Co, as recent reports have linked the club with an incredibly exciting young striker who has been compared to Harry Kane and is available for less than Dele Alli cost in 2015.

Tottenham are chasing a promising poacher

According to a a recent report by the Tottenham Newsnorth Londoners are incredibly interested in St Patrick’s Athletic striker Mason Melia.

The North Londoners saw off a £1million bid earlier this season but have continued to pursue the youngster and, according to the report, remain incredibly interested in his signature.

However, to do so they will have to double their initial bid and the story reveals that the Irish club value their exciting prospect at £2m, which may be a lot of money but is well short of the £5m Dele cost Lilywhites back in 2015.

It might cost them more than they’d like, but given how well he’s played this season and the potential he possesses, Spurs should pay the money for Melio, especially as he’s already won the inevitable Kane comparisons.

Why Spurs should sign Melia

Okay, so the first thing to say is that the Kane comparison comes courtesy of scout Jacek Kulig, who calls Melia as “Irish Harry Kane” last April, and while it was undoubtedly said on the scales, there’s a reason why he said it.

For example, despite being 16 for most of last season, an “exceptional” talent, as they call him former manager Jon Dalymanaged to collect a catch of seven goals and two assists in 35 mostly substitute appearances, which lasted a total of 178 minutes.

That means he scored an average of once every 193.11 minutes as a teenager playing amongst older players, which is really impressive.

This season he succeeded six appearances in the European Conference Qualification for the league and even played two games against Turkey’s Basaksehir, who won the Super League just five years ago.

On top of that, he has now played three games for Ireland U-19s, a total of 112 minutesin which he already scored one goal in addition to ten goals and three assists that he collected in 22 games for U-17.

Ultimately, there is undoubtedly an element of risk in signing such a young player from a league so low in the UEFA rankings, but there is a considerable amount of hype surrounding Melia, and for the reported price, it might be worth the gamble for Spurs, especially as have already compared him to the sensational Kane.
