Player ratings as Kluivert topples Magpies with hat-trick

Bournemouth extended their unbeaten run to 11 games in all competitions with an impressive 4-1 win against Newcastle United in the Premier League thanks to a Justin Kluivert hat-trick.

Bournemouth started breathlessly on Tyneside and went ahead after just six minutes to stun the home crowd. Kluivert scored his ninth goal of the season in all competitions, meeting Antoine Semeny’s pass with a pinpoint strike to give the visitors a deserved lead.

Newcastle they quickly regrouped and were encouraged by the boisterous home support as they equalized in the 25th minute. Some slack defending from the visitors was punished when Bruno Guimaraes deflected his free-kick wide of an unconvincing Kepa Arrizabalaga.

But it was Guimaraes who was to blame as Bournemouth restored their lead just before the break. The midfielder was robbed deep in Newcastle territory and Kluivert doubled his tally for the afternoon with a powerful strike after being supplied by the tireless Dango Ouattara.

Ouattara continued to cause problems for Newcastle’s backline and the Burkina Faso international had the ball in the goal on the hour mark. However, his deflected effort was disallowed following VAR intervention after the ball went out of play earlier in the move.

Brooks saw a superb near-post effort cleared by Martin Dubravka as Bournemouth chased a third, but it mattered little as Kluivert sealed a deserved three points for the Cherries in stoppage time with a stunning long-range strike.

There was still time for Bournemouth to grab the fourth, however, Miloš Kerkez went into action in the 96th minute. The Hungarian made an incredible run in the final period to produce a superb finish as the Cherries added even more gloss to the scoreline.
