Pakistan cricketer Muhammad Hurraira wowed the spectators with a brilliant catch in the first Test of the two-match series against the West Indies. A reflex catch by Muhammad Hurraira dismissed West Indies batsman Keacy Carty for a golden duck off the bowling of Sajid Khan at the Multan Cricket Stadium on January 18.

Hurraira was handed his first Test cap by Babar Azam on the opening day of the series. The 22-year-old recorded scores of 74 and 80 in two innings for Pakistan Shaheens in a three-day warm-up match against West Indies. However, he managed 6 runs off 15 balls in the first innings for Pakistan.

The incident happened in the third over of West Indies’ first innings. Muhammad Hurraira took a good catch at short leg and dismissed Keacy Carty off the bowling of Sajid Khan. The ball took an extra bounce as it turned and Carty tried to hit it but couldn’t keep it.

Hurraira, anticipating the shot well, deflected the ball with his right hand before latching onto the rebound with his left hand as he fell. This stunning catch secured two wickets in two balls for Sajid Khan, putting West Indies in early trouble. Carty was fired on the second day for the golden duck.

The Kraigg Brathwaite-led side lost wickets at regular intervals against the spin duo of Sajid Khan and Noman Ali. At the time of writing, the Windies were at 66/8 in 16 overs, with Gudakesh Motie (9) and Jomel Warrican (0) at the top. Noman and Sajid took four wickets each.

Pakistan bundled out for 230 after the Shakeel-Rizwan Stand

West Indies got four wickets for 46 runs in the first innings in Pakistan. However, middle-order batsmen Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan put on a 141-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Shakeel was dismissed for 84, just 16 runs short of a fifth Test century, while Rizwan was dismissed for 71 runs.

Sajid and Khurram added 25 quick runs before Jomel Warrican came back to clear the tail. Pakistan were bowled out for 230 just before the lunch break, losing 6 wickets for 43 runs. For West Indies, Warrican and Jayden Seales took three wickets each, while Kevin Sinclair secured two wickets.

Muhammad Hurraira said he wants to make a name for himself in international cricket. Reflecting on his journey, Hurraira described representing Pakistan as a great honor, noting that he gained valuable experience as part of the team in several series.

“To represent my country is a great honor. I have been with the team for several series and I have learned a lot from that experience,” Huraira said.

“I have no words to describe what I felt when I was told that I was selected. My constant effort is to work on my fundamentals and techniques,” he added.
