The Netherlands grapples with a painful past as World War II archives are released

Eighty years after the end of World War II, the largest Dutch war archive is being released to the public. No longer classified, it contains the names of hundreds of thousands of people who were investigated for collaborating with the Nazis. The announcement caused a lot of interest, but also a public debate. Just weeks before the complete archive containing 30 million documents was due to be released, the Dutch data protection authority intervened, citing privacy concerns.
