Virgil van Dijk gives a firm response to talk of a ‘crisis’ at Liverpool

Virgil van Dijk has laughed off suggestions that Liverpool are in the midst of a “crisis”.

The Reds have enjoyed a dominant start to life under new manager Arne Slot, but have suffered a clear dip in form in recent weeks. They have won just three of their last seven Premier League games, allowing Arsenal to move to within four points at the top league table.

Liverpool too lost 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, but Van Dijk insisted the team’s recent results were simply testament to the high level of competition in the English top flight.

“Ooh, so we’re in a crisis now?” Van Dijk said sarcastically when questioned Liverpoolnewer form.

“It just confirms it Premier League is a very tough league where you play against very good opponents. It will always be difficult, same with [Manchester] United at home with their new manager and game plan showing especially against the bigger teams.

“Every game is tough, we have to find a way to win and I think if we play like we did in the second half and keep fighting, keep trying, keep finding opportunities, I’m confident we’ll score as well as we’ve done all season.”

Van Dijk also saw the positive side of Liverpool’s recent trend of conceding the first goal of the game. The Reds have had to come from behind five times in their last seven games.

“It shows resilience,” insisted Van Dijk. “No one wants to come from behind, we have to keep working on it and have everyone in top form to prevent that. All we can do is try to do it better in the next game.”
