Sheffield United are now considering signing the £300,000-a-year international
Sheffield United are now considering a shock move to bring in a new midfielder this month, it has been reported, as they look to boost their chances of an immediate return to the Premier League.
Sheffield United will be busy in January
Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder confirmed this last week his side will be busy this month as they want to secure automatic promotion at the end of the Championship campaign.
“We have been talking for the last 48 hours, we are continuously working and trying to reach an agreement,” the Blades manager explained.
“I’ve talked about selling clubs or players who are on loan – they want the best offer and they’re waiting for better offers. That’s really the situation, but we’ve moved things forward, so I’m hoping we’ll see some progress in the next four or five days before the Norwich game .

“If I told you about one of the deals, it would be funny to you, but you have to wait. Sometimes it’s a game of poker. But we have players who want to come here, which is the biggest And we have owners and a CEO who work tirelessly to bring players, which is enough for me.”
One of those who could arrive is Tom Cannon, with Sheffield United in the mix to sign the striker after parent club Leicester terminated his loan at Stoke City, although they face stiff competition for his signature.
Now they could also get another player whose time in the Championship has just come to an abrupt end.
Sheffield United want to sign an international midfielder
It comes after a shocking report by the Sheffield Star revealed it Sheffield United are now considering signing Northern Ireland international midfielder and recent Sheffield Wednesday loanee Shea Charles for the rest of the season.
21-year-old midfielder, who Pep Guardiola hailed as “fantastic” during his time at Manchester City’s youth academyhe spent the first half of the Championship campaign with the Owls, even playing in the Steel City derby that Sheffield United emerged victorious from.

However, on Wednesday, chairman Dejphon Chansiri confirmed on Tuesday that Southampton had decided to recall him from his spell at Hillsborough, with a new report suggesting their cross-town rivals are ready to bring him back to the Steel City on loan for the second half of the campaign.
“Charles’ name is now on the long list of targets for the Blades this month,” explained the report, adding that “the player’s agent has a good relationship with key officials at Bramall Lane” which could help any potential deal.
With Ollie Arblaster out through injury, Sheffield United have been eyeing midfielders this window and have already been linked with a loan move for Leicester City’s Hamza Choudury, while adding £6,000 a week the wages Charles would demand probably wouldn’t break the bank at Bramall Lane. Would it be worth it just to outdo their city rivals?
