Scott Bessent’s hearing is one of several reviews of Donald Trump’s cabinet nominations this week.
One of the highest profile hearings was Pete HegsethTrump’s Pentagon pick, which was in the hot seat for Tuesday’s tense Senate committee hearing. Allegations of sexual assault and alcohol abuse have been leveled against the former Fox News anchor, but Hegseth played down the media’s “coordinated smear campaign” against him during the four-hour hearing.
Trump’s nominee for U.S. attorney general, Pam Bondi, said “politics will not play a role” in her decisions about who to investigate, when questioned during her confirmation hearing on Wednesday. The longtime Trump supporter, who previously served two terms as Florida attorney general, has made promises in the past “Investigators will be questioned” after the return of the newly elected president to the White House. Bondi will reappear for a the second day tests today.
Republican Sen. Marco Rubio, who is Trump’s choice for secretary of state, and Sean Duffy, the president-elect’s choice to head the Department of Transportation, had relatively subdued hearings on Wednesday.
