Newcastle 3-0 Wolves

Alexander Isak scored twice as Newcastle beat Wolves 3-0 at St James’ Park to move into the top four.

The striker has now scored in eight consecutive Premier League games, breaking the club record and becoming only the fourth man to do so in the competition. Newcastle have won their last six games which have seen them clinch a place in the Champions League.

Isak’s first goal was deflected into the bottom corner of the net by Rayan Ait-Nouri, and the second was direct, gaining space inside the Wolves penalty area. The Swede even assisted Newcastle’s third goal, setting up Anthony Gordon to score.

It reflected Newcastle’s dominance despite Jorgen Strand Larsen hitting the post and Santi Bueno having a goal disallowed. Vitor Pereira’s side fell back into the relegation zone after this defeat, and their status in the Premier League looks uncertain again.

By contrast, Newcastle, with nine straight wins in all competitions, look a team on the rise under Eddie Howe. The whole squad appears in top form – and it helps that Howe can count on the services of arguably the best striker in Europe at the moment.

More to come…
