Team India star Arshdeep Singh displayed exceptional skill with the new ball in the Vijay Hazare Trophy quarter-final against Maharashtra in Vadodara on Saturday, January 11. Arshdeep played a stunning knock to clean up Ruturaj Gaikwad, who managed just five runs off five balls in the knockout match.
Punjab captain Abhishek Sharma won the toss and decided to bowl the match. The Maharashtra team got off to a poor start as they lost the wicket of skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad on the last ball of the first over. Arshdeep took full advantage of the new ball to dismiss Gaikwad and give his team an early breakthrough.

Arshdeep Singh worried Ruturaj Gaikwad with his delivery in the first over. Ruturaj survived a near miss as the inside edge narrowly avoided the stumps but went for the boundary. On the last ball of the opening over, Arshdeep delivered a brilliant delivery that deflected off Gaikwad.
Gaikwad anticipated the incoming ball and played inside the line but missed completely as the ball hit the top of the off stump. This early breakthrough was a crucial moment for Punjab as Gaikwad, who was expected to play a key role for Maharashtra, continued to rack up low scores in the tournament.

After dismissing Ruturaj Gaikwad in the first over, Arshdeep struck again in the next over to remove Siddhesh Veer for five balls, reducing Maharashtra to 8-2 inside three overs in the first innings.
Arshdeep concluded his first spell with impressive figures of 5-1-21-2. After his early breakthroughs, Ankit Bawne and Arshin Kulkarni anchored the Maharashtra innings with a 100-plus run partnership.
At the time of writing, Maharashtra were 144/2 after 32 overs, with Arshin Kulkarni and Ankit Bawne leading the charge. Kulkarni remained unbeaten on 75 runs off 103 balls, including 11 boundary strikes. Bawne added 60 runs off 84 balls, with 7 boundaries.
