As wildfires burned in Los Angeles County, one California resident “struggled” to save his home from deadly flames.

Orly Israel is among thousands of citizens in Velika Los Angeles area faced with more wildfires this week. By midday Thursday, the fires had claimed at least five lives and burned more than 27,000 hectares.

“We just fought until we couldn’t fight anymore, until it got so hot you couldn’t even stand in the yard without getting burned,” Israel said Thursday on “Your world.”

As the flames spread toward his house, Israel and a friend tried to stop the fire.

“You have to fight. If you’re going to fight, you bring it – and we had the guts. We threw out all the pillows. The Jacuzzi was ready to be thrown,” he explained.

“We stayed there knowing we had a plan. As soon as we thought those trees were going to come down and block the road, we went outside. All the cars were ready to go, so there was no way we were going to be stuck inside based on our own thoughts.”

While officials try put out forest firesIsrael is calling on fellow Californians to “be strong” and “take action again” to help rebuild the City of Angels.

“Things are just things. We got people together. We’re taking action right now. We’re getting GoFundMes, ‘clean up the Palisades’ GoFundMes. People are trying to make T-shirts that can raise money. We sat yesterday, but now it’s time to take action again, and there are still things that can be done,” Israel told Fox News host Trace Gallagher.

“Muhammad Ali, I think he lost the battle — he’s back. George Foreman lost the battle — he’s back. A house is a house, but the people are strong. Everyone’s sending messages #PalisadesStrong. It’s kind of corny to be on the other side of the #strong side, but here we have to be strong or we have to sit down and nobody sits down as soon as we go out there and start cleaning, we go out there and clean.”
