The Carter family and former President Jimmy Carter’s casket are on their way home to the Plains after landing at Lawson Army Airfield in Georgia. Another military guard, a band and a 21-gun salute greeted the plane on a cool, sunny afternoon at Fort Moore Air Force Base near Columbus, southwest of Atlanta. The Carter family stood on the tarmac as the casket was loaded into the presidential hearse. Former members of Carter’s Secret Service and their families were also watching.
