Arsenal have made inquiries to sign the “powerful” ace worth £60m
Arsenal’s chances of lifting the trophy this season took a big hit on Tuesday night.
Mikel Arteta the team played host to Newcastle United in the first game League Cup semi-final and ended up losing 2-0 despite creating more than enough chances to win.
Maybe then the manager started the information form Gabriel Jesuswho scored a hat-trick in the last round, his side would go to St James’ Park with a slender advantage.
Over the past month, the Brazilian has looked somewhat close to joining the club in 2022, but it could be too late for him as recent reports have hailed another exciting striker for a move to N5.
Arsenal target Premier League phenomenon
According to a a recent report from Caught OffsideArsenal are one of several sides interested in signing the Aston Villa star John Duran.
In fact, the report revealed that alongside Barcelona, Napoli, Chelsea and FC Bayern Munich, the Gunners have inquired about a possible move, while Paris Saint-Germain are weighing up whether to make a bid.
It’s not just the scale of the competition that might give the north Londoners pause for thought, with Villa reportedly placing a £60m price tag on the striker’s head.
Getting over the line could be complicated and expensive, but given Duran’s ability and immense potential, he’s worth fighting for, even if it brings bad news for Jesus.
How John Duran compares to Jesus
So if Arsenal manage to get ahead of the competition and bring in Duran this year, he would likely come in as, at the very least, the club’s new back-up striker, which in turn would put him up against Jesus, but how do the pair compare?
Well, when it comes to their sheer power, which is the most important metric of all for center forwards, it’s the “powerful” Colombian, as they call him. analyst Ben Mattinsonwhich comes out on top.
For example, in just 26 appearances, a total of 976 minutes, in all competitions this season, he scored 12 goalswhich amounts to an average involvement in a goal every 2.16 games or every 81.33 minutes and lends credence to Mattinson’s claim to possess a “huge ceiling”.
In contrast, the former Manchester City star has scored seven goals and recorded two assists in 26 appearances, a total of 1164 minutes this season, which is an average participation in a goal every 2.88 games or every 129.33 minutes.
Unfortunately for the Brazilian ace, the one-sided nature of this comparison extends to their underlying numbers.

For example, in most relevant metrics, the Villa ace comes out on top, including but not limited to actual and expected non-penalty goals plus assists, shots and shots on target and aerial duels won, all at 90.
Ultimately, Jesus is an incredibly talented footballer, but he is no longer at the level to lead Arsenal forward.
In contrast, Duran looks like he could be, and given how well he’s played at just 21 years old this season, it’s hard to say how good he could be a few years from now.
