US Senate panel to hold hearings on Trump’s energy choices next week Reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. Senate Energy Committee will hold hearings on President-elect Donald Trump’s nominations for energy roles on Tuesday and Wednesday next week, the committee chairman said on Thursday.

The committee will hold a hearing to consider Doug Burgum, Trump’s nominee for interior secretary, on Tuesday, January 14 at 10 a.m. (15:00 GMT). Until last month, Burgum was the governor of North Dakota, a major oil-producing state.

Burgum is also expected to head the new National Energy Council, which will coordinate policies to increase energy production in the US.

The committee will hold a hearing for Energy Secretary-elect Chris Wright a day later at the same time. Wright, Liberty Energy’s CEO and chairman, plans to step down from that role when he is confirmed as secretary.

The nominees are expected to be confirmed by the Senate, now controlled by Trump’s fellow Republicans, who need only a majority to confirm. They are expected to implement Trump’s policies to increase oil and gas production and rein in President Joe Biden’s rules and regulations on climate change.
