Kambosos Jr. will headline March’s Australia Card: Hearn Eyes Top 15 Clash for the former champion
Eddie Hearn says that George Kambosos Jr. will lead a show in Australia in March. He wouldn’t say who the former unified lightweight champion would fight, but said it would be a top 15 contender in his debut at 140.
‘The Emperor’ Kambosos is currently going through a rough patch in his career, having lost three of his last four fights, and is considered a textbook example of a one-hit-wonder.
In 2021, George pulled off a miraculous upset of Teofimo Lopez and made millions from that brief success. However, it’s been downhill for Kambosos since then, losing twice to Devin Haney and being knocked out by Vasily Lomachenko. He is a flash in the pan.
“Bum” Hitchins in Kambosos’ sights
Kambosos (21-3, 10 KO) says he will challenge Richardson Hitchins for his IBF welterweight title this summer. Referring to the invincible New Yorker as a “bum,” Kambosos is confident that he will defeat him and become world champion in two divisions.
Hitchins spoiled Hearn’s plans for the big Australian clash by defeating IBF140-lb champion Liam Paro via unanimous decision over 12 rounds last month on December 7. Hearn hoped to match Kambosos and Paro in the big Aussie series in 2025, as the fight would sell well for the Australian market.
