A few kilometers from the beautiful white sand beaches of Fort Lauderdale, you will find my alma mater, Fort Lauderdale High Schoolon the corner of the northeast fourth avenue and 16th streets.

Return to my day, Fort Lauderdale High School, the House of “Flying L”, was a safe, successful and kind place filled with teachers who were mentors, motivators and our greatest fans. They remained after school to help fight the students, pushed us to believe in our potential, and made sure that children from the working -class family have access to solid public education.

That Public education has paved the way To college, the Faculty of Graduate and in the end, my career.

Like so many public schools across America, Fort Lauderdale High is a school school and, which means he gets federal dollars to support students from low -income families. The title and I am not just a financing mechanism – it is a rescue line for students who seek the education they deserve, regardless of the postal code.

Democrats screaming due to the latest Trump plan to reduce wasteful spending for one reason

These funds support everything, from employment and retaining quality teachers to programs after school that give children a safe place to learn and grow. Today, more than 26 million students across the country depend on the financing of the title and what provides access to the same options that their peers receive.

However, the title is not funded enough for decades, forcing schools to work more with less and stretch every dollar so that the students do not remain behind.

President Donald TrumpThe dismantling of the Department of Education will devastate the high and countless other Fort Lauderdale schools, which begs an important question: most people do not really know what the education department is doing.

Why will the education department break up

Basically, the education department helps each child access to quality education, no matter where they live. It also conducts the protection of civil rights, supervises federal student assistance and ensures that the schools that serve the low -income communities receive the necessary funds.

Without federal surveillance and financing, programs such as a title and could disappear or will be conducted by the wrong state legislators in dead state legislation to increase the financing model based on equal treatment under the Law, leaving students without critical support. Public schools are already facing huge challenges, and the removal of these resources would expand the gap between wealthy and low revenue communities, which is even harder to approach the work families.

Like me, more than 83% of young young people attend public schools. They deserve great math teachers, dynamic coaches for discussion, well -prepared science educators, advanced classes, art, drama, civic and more. And while some claim that school choice is an answer, the reality is that the best choice of family should be their public school in the neighborhood.

Instead of strengthening this choice, Trump’s plan and wrong attempts by state -laws to push in advance private school vouchers and other private alternatives will destabilize both urban and rural schools, making it harder – not easier – families to find quality educational opportunities.

It’s not just about politics. It’s about people. These are millions of students who rely on their public schools to give them a chance to fight in their lives. These are teachers who wake up every morning, determined to make a difference, even if they are malicious and under -paid. These are communities that rely on public schools, not only as a learning centers but also safe haven, meal providers and a driving pad for lifelong dreams.

MPs on the right often emphasize the importance of family values, hard work and opportunities. But the higher Investment in American families Is there access to each child access to higher quality education?

Dismantling Department of Education It is not in the cutting of bureaucracy – but about the reduction of the future of American children. We should invest in our public schools, not separating them. The abandonment of the title and in the limb would have a catastrophic effect on students, public school educators and community across the country.

That is why our children deserve more thoughtful policies solutions that will ensure that each of them has access to high quality education-as much where they live or how much their parents make.
