Joby Aviation, in partnership with Delta Air Lines and Uber, develops electric flying taxis that will eventually be able to access the public daily offering an alternative to traditional land transport. Product Director Jody Eric Allison told Fox Business that the company could start the transportation of passengers in Dubai this year, and US operations are expected in the next few years, until the completion of the Certification Federal Air Force Certification (FAA). The company, which successfully conducted an exhibition flight in New York in November 2023, has completed three of the five FAA certificates since March 2025.
Allison said the company not only builds aircraft components including batteries, computers and carbon fibrous aircraft structure Alone, but builds a service that a company can implement and “put it in the hands of a consumer,” Allison said.

Allison said users would either be able to ask for a ride through the Jody application – currently in development – or through the Uber application. Joby’s software will monitor the demand and automatically fill the available seats based on this, directing passengers to the nearest take -off and landing places. Finally, the company plans to expand its infrastructure outside Heliport, exploring locations such as parking garages, parking lots or even roof construction. This will allow the company to approach the user’s destination, reducing the need for car traveling.
“Ultimately, we want to take off and land as close as possible to where you need to be,” Allison said.
Electric air design, minimal noise impact and lack of engine smoke, facilitates the construction of infrastructure, especially in densely populated areas.
According to Jody, NASA measured the sound of the 2022 aircraft, revealing that it only registered 45.2 decibels per 1,640 feet, which is calmer than a typical conversation.

While the aircraft can only fly up to 100 miles, Allison said it makes it ideal for shorter trips, which she believes is “real market meat”.
For example, Allison said the aircraft could fly from Manhattan to John F. Kennedy’s international airport in Queens in just seven minutes. The same path lasts between 30 minutes and an hour, depending on the traffic.

Another key advantage of these electric aircraft is their low operational costs, making them more accessible to drivers. Initially, Allison projects the price at a seat similar to the Uber black driving price in the US while the net is expanding, believes that the price could drop to the Uber X level, making it available to a wider audience.
“We think it’s actually achievable and a lot more people can now start participating in it,” Allison said.
