US President Donald Trump said he would impose an additional 25 percent of steel and aluminum imports from Canada, escalating his battle with one of American shopping partners.

“I ordered my secretary for a store to add an additional 25% of tariffs, 50%, to all steels and aluminum coming to the United States from Canada, one of the highest tariff countries anywhere in the world,” Trump wrote on his social platform of truth on Tuesday.

He added that the imposition would take effect on Wednesday.

Trump also said that if Canada did not lower his “longtime” tariff, he would “significantly increase” the levies to the cars coming to the US, the move he said he would “be permanently closed” by car making an industry in the country.
