Bruno Fernandes equals unwanted red card record against Wolves leaving Ruben Amorim ‘frustrated’

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim admitted he was “frustrated” when he saw Bruno Fernandes’ red card in 2-0 defeat by Wolverhampton Wanderers on Thursday.

The United captain received his second yellow card just two minutes into the second half, completely changing the course of the game as goals from Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-chan handed the Red Devils another defeat.

It was Fernandes’ third red card of the season following dismissals against Tottenham Hotspur and Porto, the former of which was later overturned on appeal. Not since Nemanja Vidić in 2008/09 United player seen red so many times in one season.

While Amorim admitted his anger at Fernandes’ early departure from the game, he refused to be too critical of the midfielder for what he saw as simply a mistake.

I will always be frustrated with the red card, but it can happen, Amorim told the media.

“He wanted to go to the ball. It’s not like he wanted to stop the play with a yellow — he wants to go to the ball. The other guy touched the ball first, and there was contact. That thing is hard for him, too.”
