Weekly Unemployment Requests Jump to 242,000, which is more than expected in the latest sign of economic softening

The initial submissions for unemployed fees have reached their highest level of year last week in other potential signs of the weakness of the labor market.
The requirements for the unemployed for the week ended on February 22 was seasonally adapted to 242,000, which is 22,000 compared to the revised level of the previous week and higher than the DOW Jones estimate for 225,000, according to the work of the work department on Thursday.
The level of claims has been answered by the highest level from the beginning of October 2024 and comes in the midst of questions about wider economic growth and worrying signs in recent consumer research.
President Donald Trump has taken aggressive measures to reduce the federal labor through the advisory committee of the Elon Musk Efficiency Department. The efforts to far resulted in thousands of job reduction and are expected to continue.
In Washington, DC, new claims were 2,047, according to numbers not adapted to seasonal factors. This is the largest number for the city from March 25, 2023, according to the work department.
