Australian dressing room erupts in wild celebration after BGT triumph, Steve Smith goes berserk


The Australian National Cricket Team finally got their hands on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as they defeated the Indian National Cricket Team by 6 wickets in the fifth match of the series. They were impressive with bat and ball at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney, where the last match was played, and booked their place in the ICC WTC Final.

Victory in the last match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. meant that the Australian national cricket team won the series by a margin of 3–1. The Pat Cummins-led side outclassed the Indian cricket team on most occasions in the series to win the trophy for the first time since 2014-15.

Australia lost the first match of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth

The Australian national cricket team did not have a great start to the series as they lost the opening game at the Optus Stadium in Perth by a wide margin. However, after that they came back strongly in Adelaide and won the game by 10 winners. The third game ended in a draw before the hosts gave it their all.

The Pat Cummins-led side were in the right place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, where they took control of the series as they won the match by 184 runs. It was the final showdown in Sydney, where they scored a sensational 6-wicket win to clinch the series.

India chose to bat first and in conditions that were difficult to bat in, they got all out for just 185 runs. Rishabh Pant (40) was the team’s leading run-scorer while captain Jasprit Bumrah’s (22) late strike ensured they had a fighting total.

With the ball, India were at their best as they bowled great lines and lengths and troubled the Australian National Cricket Team batsmen right from the start. The likes of Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah and Nitish Kumar Reddy were among the wicketkeepers as they bundled out the hosts for 181, taking a 4-run lead.

In the second innings, India came up with a positive effort with the bat as they looked to score points. Yashasvi Jaiswal (22) and KL Rahul (13) gave the Team a solid start but after that they lost quick wickets and came under pressure. However, it was Rishabh Pant who pulled the team out of trouble.

The keeper-batsman hit a brutal half-century and finished with an innings of a quick 63 runs. However, apart from him, no other batsman could get going as the Australian national cricket team bowled India out for just 157 runs, setting themselves a target of 162 runs to chase.

India were without Jasprit Bumrah in the second innings and it must have cost them. Australia had a solid start to the chase with Sam Konstas (22) and Usman Khawaja (41) adding 39 runs for the opening partnership.

India made a slight comeback with quick wickets but Travis Head (34*) and Beau Webster (39*) combined to take their team home to win the match by six wickets and win the series 3-1.

As Beau Webster took the win, the Australian dressing room was blown to bits. Players like Steve Smith, Pat Cummins, Marnus Labuschagne and other players were extremely elated as they celebrated aggressively.
