The current Man Utd squad could be the worst in the club’s 147-year history

Ruben Amorim has admitted that Manchester United’s current squad could be the worst in the club’s illustrious 147-year history.

Amorim was left scratching his head once more as United fell to a Home defeat 3-1 to ghost team Brighton & Hove Albion, just days after Amad Diallo spared Southampton embarrassment with his hat-trick at Old Trafford.

Goals from Yankuba Minteh, Kaoru Mitoma and Georgini Rutter, thanks to a terrible mistake by Andre Onanacondemned United to a sixth home defeat of the season and Amorim made his feelings clear about the standard of players at his disposal when speaking to the media after the game.

“In ten games in Premier Leaguewe won two,” he said. “I know that. Imagine what this is for a Manchester United fan. Imagine what this is for me. We get a new coach who loses more than the previous coach. I have a lot of knowledge about it.

“I’m not going to change, no matter what. I know we can make it, but we need to survive this moment. I’m not naive. We need to survive now.

“We are perhaps the worst team in history Manchester United. I know you want headlines, but I’m saying this because we have to admit it and change it. Here you go: your headlines.”

“It’s hard to explain,” he continued: “We have to acknowledge the moment and not sidestep the problem. Everyone here is not doing enough, regardless of the circumstances. We have poor results and we have to accept that.

“It’s unacceptable to lose so many games for any Premier League club, imagine Manchester United. So this is a really difficult moment, but we have to go on, we have to go on, there’s no other way. We have to suffer and go on.

“Our players are really nervous and anxious. When you enter the back court, remember the last games here, if I feel it, the players feel it a lot. The only way is to keep doing the same and winning games.”

Amorim was expected to quickly turn things around at United following the sacking of Erik ten Hag in October, but the former Sporting CP boss has won just five of his 15 games in all competitions, losing seven.
