A cease-fire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza takes effect Sunday morning | News
The ceasefire in Gaza between Israel and Hamas will take effect at 08:30 a.m. (06:30 GMT) on Sunday, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesman said in a post on X.
“We advise our brothers to take precautions, be extremely careful and wait for instructions from official sources,” the ministry said on Saturday.
Late Friday, Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet approved the job after more than 460 days of war in which the Israeli forces more than 46,788 Palestinians were killed and 110,453 wounded.
The Israeli government ratified the cease-fire agreement early Saturday morning after a meeting that lasted more than six hours, Netanyahu’s office said in a brief statement.
Al Jazeera’s Hamdah Salhut, reporting from Amman, Jordan, said the Israeli government’s vote was part of “accelerating this deal.”
“They initially said they wanted to vote on it on Saturday night, to respect those in the right-wing and religious government who observe the Sabbath,” she noted.
“But the Israeli government decided that life-saving measures were part of the deal and so they worked late into the night on Friday night.”
The time frame of the previously announced ceasefire is slightly different from the actual announcement on Saturday, our correspondent also noted.
“All eyes are now on Gaza to see what the Israeli army will do in these final hours, because historically, before any ceasefire agreement, the Israeli army hits the Gaza Strip with all its might.
“There will be a lot of fear and anxiety.”
