WSL Clubs vote on the proposed removal of outburst
Women’s Professional League Limited (WPLL) has suggested removing out of the high flight to improve the league’s competitiveness.
According to reports of the emergence from GuardThe league’s governing body can at least temporarily extinguish the relegation from the Women’s Super League (WSL) as early as the 2026/27 season. In the next few years, the decision will cooperate with the gradual expansion of the competition on 16 teams.
The proposal is said to have been made in an attempt to “increase the profile, sustainability and profitability of women’s football.”
Reports say WPLL will vote among 23 clubs in the first and second levels of England at the end of the season to decide whether a controversial measure is being carried out.
The promotion from the women’s championship will continue, with an additional video available every season. Eliminating the relegation and promotion of the two teams of the season of the season will support WPLL plans to expand the number of clubs in WSL.
The teams will have the last word about the meeting at the end of the season, but the sources have confirmed that WPLL will also contact other key stakeholders such as players, fans and football federation.
In addition to threatening the very principles of competitive sports, fans have caused concern in potential loss of relegation because of the possibility that the immunity to relegate clubs at the bottom of the table will be to invest in women’s football. If the outburst is taken away and does not return after the expansion end, WSL could ultimately become a closed league.
Wpll refused to comment at this stage, but they say the discussions between the body and the clubs are ongoing.
