Protests – among the largest debt crisis in the country more than decades ago – have encouraged public outraction against the inactivity of the conservative government.
Critics say politicians should be responsible for the failures that have led to the collision, but so far only railway officers have been charged with any crimes.
“The government did nothing to gain justice,” said Christos Main, 57, a musician at an Athens rally. “This was not an accident, it was a murder,” he said.
In one of the biggest protests in Greece in the years, public services and many private companies stopped and people poured on the streets of cities and cities that sang “killers” against what they say is the role of the state in a disaster. The government denies injustice.
