The second round of the Super League 2025 has given dominant performances, narrow battles and many points to talk about why competition looks like it could be by being.
The district started with the absolute cracker of the competition between Wakefield Trinity and Hull Kr, and Robins just carved it. It was a tight competition that could go any direction, but 20-year-old Oliver Pratt stood out for Wakefield with an impressive performance.
Wigan then gave a dominant performance, setting up a marker in the early season. Hull FC faced a heavy check of reality, although there were signs of potential for black and white.
Now to their opponents in Vegas, Warrington. The Burgess Side itself went with a hard victory that shown grizz and resistance. Warrington has only done enough, until Catalan’s spine still clicks. Now they are facing a challenging task in Leigh this week.
On Saturday afternoon, we saw the famous Salford side and they started well and even hit. The nasty conflict of the head for Leeds Rhinos’ Brodie Croft was concern; I hope he recovers quickly. Leeds secured victory and Salford will be expected to improve in the coming weeks.
Saturday night, then ended with another reckless performance of St. Helens, adding another game with high results to their record.
Completing the third round, we saw an impressive victory for Leopard in front of 8,500 passionate fans. David Armstrong showed a real talent for the side of Adrian Lama.
Although we are only two rounds, there are some key stories that start to develop:
1) Saints, Warrington and Leigh are already appearing as serious candidates
2) Catalan and Huddersfield are still ironing combinations and looking for their first victory
3) Wakefield and Leigh produced early surprises, shaking things up
So, how will these stories affect the third round? Well, before we look at it, we need to talk about Las Vegas!
Las Vegas meets the rugby league!
I thought it was great when Roy Keane and Super Sunday teams want the game and sports well. I am the same vintage as Roy Keane and it was a great respect between all the Rugby League players and all the football players of that generation.
Occasionally we would run into football players and in Oldham, Paul Scholes, and I would have great conversations while watching our daughters playing Netball. There was a lot of respect, and Roy Keane is one of those players who would make a really good rugby league player.
Keano would be a real force, good loose forward or even the center. He would be good with the ball, but he would be brutal in defense. He would be one of those players who would really enjoy the physicality of our sport. I know he is a big fan and regularly runs into Sky Sports to watch the Super League.
Micah Richards would also make a decent front rower!
It is a magnificent opportunity for our sport and what they will do is bring new eyes, a new respect. The American audience is the one who would generally like to have a piece of league and if we can Piggyback on the NRL dressers, then I’m fine with that.
I am also a believer that if NRL and Super League can sit at a table and elaborate a strategy of working together and we get into their expertise and learning from things that they did well in Australia, and then I am alone for it.
I hope the burgess itself will classify his visa. This is a bit of a side and I hope it does not turn to the preparation of Warrington because we need a competitive game. I went through a similar one – it turns out that the paperwork is more painful than my ‘colorful past’ that caused him.
We want to show first and foremost a new audience that is Americans and also a worldwide audience, but we want to show NRL with the eyes and ears we have to come to, not underestimate and devalue what a super league can bring a table so we get some invitations for next year.
I would love to see the rhinos next year with the base of the crowds and the fans base. For me, this is the next lot of teams to be called if it happens again.
I will invest my claim early here- Brian Carney will not get his suitcase on the plane, and I apply for my place on the plane!
I’m kidding, but Brian Carney is the perfect man who crossed and represented a super league. Obviously, I’m biased here because he’s my friend, but I think he’s a magnificent emitter. I think he has a real personality to go there and match her in the role of comedy, coincide in the knowledge and understanding of the game and obviously his competence and professionalism as an emitter.
What can we expect from the third round?
Hull Kr vs Salford Red Devils, Thursday 27 February (Sky Sports+, 20:00)
Mikey Lewis showed how important he is inside the Hull Kri team and how his character and his natural aggressive nature help him dominate the game and dominate your thoughts while you are watching that game. With his injury, if he was out of a significant time, it could cause a hull blood real damage to their campaign.
It was a famous Salford team that got a little to Leeds. Hull blood even without Lewis should have enough.
Huddersfield Giants vs Hull FC, Friday 28 February (Sky Sports+, 20:00)
Huddersfield, although they played well against Warrington and Leigh, do not have points on the board, but you can see that they are competitive, they will be competitive. Hull FC, they were poorly beaten against Wigan, but they were magnificent in an open match against Catalansky. I would say it will be an interesting encounter.
Leigh Leopards VS Catalan Dragons, Friday 28 February (Sky Sports Action, 7.30pm)
Leigh Leopards always puts a great experience of the day of the match of the match and exclusion is always worth watching, but they greet the Catalan dragons who desperately need victory. Steve McNamara, as it is every year, will have some questions in the background. The question is about the spine.
I don’t think they are far in ahead, the attackers seem to do the job, but the spine has not yet clicked. Luke Keary is an exceptional player with all his wealth and experience, but he did not afford him a luxury that he could nod and wink at the players around him, because he had not yet created these intuitive relationships and relationships.
That makes me a real 50-50 game for me. Leopards will start as favorites, but I am convinced that the dragons will click at some point and will soon win. I’m not sure it will be this week, but that’s what makes it a mandatory watching on Friday night.
Wakefield Trinity VS St Helens, Saturday March 1 (Sky Sports+, 14.30)
St Helens picked up points and won twice. They hit Salford and beat Castleford. So they put points there. They look like a good team together for the points scored, and Tristan Sailor is a great player to watch.
But Wakefield is not easy rhythms – I’m really impressed with what I saw from Wakefield. Daryl Powell did what Daryl Powell does, and this is composed of a team, made them competitive and gave them confidence.
Wigan Warriors vs Warrington Wolves, Saturday March 1 (Sky Sports Main Event, Sky Sports Action, 8.30pm
I say this is a game 50-50 if all things are square. If the situation itself is still blunt, I tend to wigan.
I just hope it’s a competitive game that everyone enjoying with everything we love in the rugby league in it.
Leeds Rhinos vs Castleford Tigers, Sunday 2. March (Sky Sports+, 15:00)
Leeds got his first victory last week, but I wouldn’t say they look convincing, but the CROFTS injury is concerned. It’s another Big West Yorksshire Derby Castleford Tigers doesn’t like anything better than coming to Headinogley, as Wakefield did in the first round, hopefully, nosorozi now know what to expect from near a neighbor.
They will be completely discharged, and one of their greats Danny McGuire returns as Castleford Tigers Coach. These things always make an exciting spectacle and you just know that everything is ready to win Castleford, but we’ll wait and see.
