At least 51 people are dead after their bus lowered the bridge on the outskirts of the capital of Guatemala on Monday, said Hector Flores, who assisted in coordinating the response of the municipal authorities.
Edwin Villagran Fire State spokesman said the collision from several vehicles sent a bus from the Beles Bridge before dawn. Others were seriously injured.
A spokesman for the Volunteer Fire Fighting Fight óscar Sánchez said children were among the victims.
The bus fell 115 feet into the sewer course after colliding with two vehicles and lost control, said a spokesman for the Municipal Fire Department of Guatemala City Carlos Henández. He collapsed through a metal security fence and landed upside down and half asleep, capturing survivors, he said.
The bus came from Progreso, northeast of the capital. It is a traffic bus route crossing the highway bridge over the stream.

President Bernardo Arévalo sent condolences and declared National Sorrow Day.
“I instructed the mobilization of staff from the National Army and Conred to help on the spot and activate special criteria for medical care for wounded,” Arévalo said in a statement of X. “Furthermore, I decided to declare a national mourning period, which will soon be formalized by government by agreement. “
