The agent of the US secret service during the assassination of Kennedy dies at the age of 93
The agent of the US secret service who skipped John F Kennedy’s sedan as she fell under the fire in Dallas, and took pictures in the famous photos of one of the most dramatic events in the history of the US, died at the age of 93.
Clint Hill later became the author of the bestseller, but for decades he was chased by guilt for Kennedy’s assassination.
Hill died at his home in California on Friday, according to a statement of his publicist.
November 2, 1963 was assigned to protect the president’s wife, Jacqueline Kennedy.
Hill was driving a car behind the Kennedy sedan when the first shot rang.
He immediately rushed toward the couple and started climbing the back of the sedan as the shooting continued.
Hill actions during the assassination were recorded on the film Zapruder – an amateur home video that provided one of the best recording shots.
Hill, originally from northern Dakota, served in the army before joining the secret service in 1958.
She received him award for her actions in Dallas and eventually became Assistant Director of the Secret Service.
However, the trauma he experienced during the assassination led him to early from the 1975 agency agency, at the age of 43.
He is convinced that he could save Kennedy’s life and shortly after his retirement was told by CBS for 60 minutes to feel responsible.
“If I had reacted to about five dozen seconds faster, maybe the other faster, I wouldn’t be here today,” Hill said.
“Do you think you would get there and shoot a shot?” asked interlocutor Mike Wallace.
“Yes, sir … that would be fine with me,” Hill replied.
“I have a great guilt about that,” he said. “If I turned in the other direction, I would have succeed. I am guilty.”
As the years went by, the former secret service agent later said the documentary, returned to Dallas, eventually reached the conclusion that he could not save Kennedy’s life.
Hill met journalist Lisa McCubbin in 2009 and collaborated at the Bestseller memoir, Mrs. Kennedy and I.
It was the first in a series of books, and Hill and McCubbin fell in love. The couple got married in 2021.
The statement of his publisher says Hill died at home with his wife. The cause of death is not given.
