Tank Vs. Roach & Valenzuela Vs. Russell – weighing results for Saturday

WBA Champion in Gervont’s lightweight category ‘Tank’ Davis Vs. Lamont Roach and WBA Light Welterweight Champion Jose ‘Rayo’ Valenzuel against Gary Antuanne Russell have successfully weighed on Friday for their fights on Saturday night on March 1 at the Barclays Center, New York.

Weights

– Gervont Davis 133.8 against Lamont Roach 135
– Jose ‘Rayo’ Valenzuel 138.8 against Gary Antuanne 138.2

The tank looked visibly drained today, and you could say that it would transmit a lot of weight overnight after rehydrating. He transformed it, so low in 133.8 lbs instead of closer to the complete limit for division. This is a rather basic defense of the title for Davis, and it is not one of his heavier ones to come in so light.

The only thing that makes sense is that the tank wants to be easier, knowing that he will need to box more because of Roach’s technical skills. He will not come to Davis, wanting to drive him away the way Ryan Garcia, Isaac Cruz, Frank Martin and Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero did so.

WBA Light Welterweight Champion Jose ‘Rayo’ Valenzuel (14-2, 9 Kos) sought close to the place where he was for the last fight against ‘Pitbull’ Cruz last August in Los Angeles. Rayo moved a lot in that fight and made it almost impossible for Cruz to put his glove on him. If so fighting on Saturday night, Russell will have a lot of problems with him. This could be a really unilateral struggle.

“He’s a leader like everyone else I fought with. That’s it,” Gervont Davis said on LibraSpeaking of Lamont Roach. “Look at him, shows up. He has no of this type of energy. The same old old man, I give people what they want to see. Explosive knockouts and so on ***. That comes with me. We’ll see that on Saturday night.”
