Missouri accused Starbucks of binding an executive salary of achieving a quota for racial and gender employment of the company.
The US state of Missouri sued Starbucks, accusing the coffee chain of using commitment to diversity, equality and involvement as an excuse for systematic distinction based on races, sex and sexual orientation.
In a complaint filed at the Federal Court in St Louis on Tuesday, Missouri accused Starbucks of taking an executive salary for reaching racial and gender -based quotas.
He also accused Starbucks of extracting the preferred groups of additional prospects for training and improvement of the job and employment of the quota system to ensure that his own board of the Director has various racial and ethnic backgrounds.
“This is all illegal,” and violates the Federal and State Civil Rights Laws, according to the appeal of the Attorney General Missouri Andrew Bailey.
Bailey, a Republican, also claimed that Missouri consumers pay higher prices and await longer services at Starbucks than if the Seattl-based chain employed the most qualified workers.
“We disagree with the head lawyer and these allegations are incorrect,” Starbucks said in a statement. “We are deeply dedicated to creating opportunities for each of our partners [employees]. Our programs and use are open to everyone and lawful. “
The President of the United States Donald Trump, also a Republican, tried to extinguish the policies promoting Diversity, equality and inclusion inside and outside the federal government and some Companies have completed or reduced their own programs.
For example, Wall Street Bank Goldman Sachs on Tuesday canceled the policy for the public only if they have two diverse members of the Committee, mostly defined as people from underdeveloped demographics.
Last week, in the meantime, Google abolished employment goals based on diversity, while Amazon.com removed from his annual report the reference to including and diversity.
Diversity policies
The lawsuit on Tuesday disputed the Starbucks policy adopted since 2020, after the murder of George Floyd, a black man, a police officer in Minneapolis launched unrest in the whole country and cited many companies to reconsider employment practices.
Missouri said Starbucks was allegedly the approval of the quota “should not be a surprise”, citing the new executive director Brian Niccola support for environmental, social and management goals while leading the Chipotle Burrito chain.

The Missouri lawsuit seeks to force Starbucks to end the alleged discrimination based on race, gender and national origin; Rehire and abolish discipline against employees affected by discrimination and pay vague damage.
The case is Missouri Ex Rel Bailey against Starbucks Corp, US District Court, Eastern Missouri County, no. 25-00165.
