Burgess himself and Tom Burgess will be on the uneducated territory when Warrington Wolves takes over Huddersfield Giants in his Super League opener.
This is the first time in their career that Burgess brothers were in opposing teams, with the head coach Sam Burgesa Wolves and Tom Burgess a new signature for Giants for 2025.
Before that, they both represented South Sydney Rabbitohs in NRL with each other plus their other brothers George and Luke.
Now the brothers and sisters will object to each other for the first time, and Burgess himself even admitted that he tried to sign his brother, but he refused.
“We tried to hire him, but we were pretty tight on the cap to be fair. It will surely add something super league,” Burgess himself said.
“It will be nice to close the opening. Personally, our families will be there, family friends and it will be a nice day.
“He brings a lot of experience. He had over 250 games at NRL -50 games in the Super League before that at Huddersfield Plus 35 test matches.
“There are not many players who have received that resume. They will be great for them – it is a shame that we didn’t get it!”
Although Tom Burgess decided against playing under his older brother, he is proud of what he has achieved in the first year as the main coach and knows that Huddersfield will have a difficult task when they take them on Sunday on Sunday.
Warrington is one of the favorites that moves in the 2025 season, and Huddersfield wanted to return to the trip after a strenuous 2024.
“It’s good to go back to the home country and there is no better way to start the season than against my brother,” Tom Burgess said.
“I’m from Huddersfield and I really enjoy it.
“My older brother, he’s a little boss, so who knows what he would be like my main coach. So I thought I would keep it a little separate.
“He did it as a player. He has always been a man’s leader, so it was no surprise to see him so well (in his first year as the main coach).
“They improved them massively and they will just move on.
“I’m really proud of him. This was his path and he now achieved it.”
Warrington Wolves and Huddersfield Giants go on Sunday 16 February, which is live on Sky Sports from 15:00.
