RFL launches an investigation into Salford Red Devils Selection for the Super League match in St Helens | Rugby league news
The Rugby Football League has launched an investigation into Salford’s decision to find a spare detail at the Betfred Super League in St Hellens, which they lost in the 82-0 competition record.
The investigation could result in Salford accused of violating operational rules, which, if proven, would expose the club a series of potential sanctions.
The statement published on Monday is: “RFL contacted Salford Red Devils today to confirm that an investigation into compliance will be launched to consider the circumstances of their selection for Saturday Betfred Super League in St Helens and have brought sports sports into dishonesty.”
Due to the salary limit, the red devils were rejected by the use of numerous older players for the match, but head coach Paul Rowley still decided not to start with other, more experienced team members available.
The Saints 15-TRY ROMP was the biggest victory in the history of the Super League and pulled off the criticism of the rival, including the main coach Warrington Sam Burgesa that he threatened the integrity of the competition.
The RFL chiefs met on Monday morning and found that the club could have a case to respond to potential breach of competition rules, which require that each club “has a team enough for players at all times to fulfill their obligations in all competitions.”
Salford announced the ending of the download on Friday, but it is understood that the details are yet to be finalized enough for RFL to raise their current limitations.
Forbidding further development, they could be found under the same limitations for their next match against Leeds on Saturday.
Salford Boss Rowley said after the defeat of Saints that they had told him he could not use any players who played against the hurricane Midlands at Challenge Cup and that he decided not to appoint a mix of youth and experience.
“I don’t think it’s right to do it,” he said.
Salford’s selection of teams was widespread with Burgess, who described the situation as a “black mark at the competition” after his party’s victory in Huddersfield on Sunday.
Salford, who has seven days to respond, was not immediately available for comment.
