More than 100 locations across England presented themselves to be considered potential new cities, and Sir Keir Starmer claimed that some would be under construction by the end of this parliament.
The Prime Minister will announce the New Town program on Thursday as part of what he claims to be the largest British program for the construction of houses for more than half a century.
“We will overthrow those who stand in the way,” he told reporters ahead of the announcement.
Starmer said that the demand of local authorities to build new cities – in practice, the majority will be extended to existing settlements – showed that local people accept the “dream of homeowner”.
Applications have been received from each region in England, he added, and it is expected to be approved by a dozen places. The largest number came from London and southeast.
Starmer vowed To build new homes of 1.5 mn During the current five -year parliament, a goal that many experts in the industry think extends, if not impossible.
In the long run, he wants to jump in a fresh generation of new cities, each with the potential of delivery of at least 10,000 new homes.
Starmer said that everyone would be built in strict conditions and that he expected the construction to begin before the following elections, which must be held until 2029.
Apart from the request for new cities to have good facilities and accessible housing, he said that their design would have to be “neutral” so it would be impossible from the outside to say whether the home is social housing or privately owned.
Starmer said, “In our new cities, our goal is to make at least 40 percent of homes accessible, including social housing.”
Last year Starmer started a “Working Group for New Cities” Including the industry experts, such as former Director of Local Council Sir Michael Lyons and economist of Dame Kate Barker. The group has since published a draft of the principle of design for new Conbations.
Visiting housing on Thursday, Starmer will say that the next spending review in June in June will provide “financial security and stability” for the program.
Downing Street officials said that publicly funded loans would be available to developmental corporations behind new cities, but that they would compensate for them because the land was released, which makes the scheme cost neutral.
Starmer hopes to repeat the successful wave of new cities built after World War II in places such as Welwyn Garden City, Crawley and Stevenage in England, Cwmbran in Wales and East Kilbride in Scotland.
However, recent attempts to revive the concept-Ecotowns under the Government of Gordon Brown or the new cities under the coalition of Conservative David Cameron from 2010-15.-in-the-head were not able to get off the field.
Ministers claim that the “new homes accelerates” program manages to eliminate the delivery of some housing sites that kept unnecessary delays.
But the national federal housing, which represents housing associations, and the Federation of House Builders, an industrial group, warned in October that the Government was on the road to miss a goal of 1.5 mn for nearly a third, as high house prices and interest rates will limit the market market request.
