Man City: Laliga filed an appeal to the EU Commission, claiming that the Premier League champions have violated the EU Competition Act | Football news
Laliga President Javier Tebas says the Spanish league has filed a legal appeal to the EU Commission, claiming that Manchester City has violated the EU Competition Act.
Tebas said that the appeal was filed in 2023 and was associated with a foreign subsidy regulation.
The Regulation concerns foreign subsidies that have not been assigned by EU Member States dealing with economic activities within the internal market.
Laliga filed a complaint based on the fact that Man City received foreign subsidies from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), allowing the club to improve its competitive position and cause significant distortion on different national and EU markets.
Tebas said, “All they do is think about how to avoid rules and regulations.
“We reported this to the European Union with facts and numbers. Why? Because it’s an English team that is not part of the EU, but they have commercial activities in Europe.
“It is really important that all clubs are subject to the rules of transparency and management and real competition on the financial and sports side of their business.”
Laliga states that the club receives resources under non -market conditions that impair several closely related markets, allowing the club to sign players and coaches that are far more than what would be feasible in the usual market conditions and insurance of sponsorship revenue on levels that do not coincide with the FER market value.
Laliga says this improves the performance of Man City on the field, at the same time a limiting capacity of its rival.
It is understood that the meetings have been held, but Laliga is waiting for the decision and/or further progress from the European Commission.
Man City says Tebas has a long history of attacking the club and refused to comment.
But they strongly reject the allegations and indicate their accounts as proof of the injustice that are a matter of public records.

Laliga’s legal appeal was separated and unrelated with 115 charges that Man City faced the alleged violations of the Premier League financial regulations. Man City denied all the charges.
