The leaders of the Democratic Party in Hong Kong announced plans to dissolve what was once the largest city opposition group.

Members will soon vote on the final decision on whether to close the 31-year-old party, said LO Kin-Hei President.

The party struggles to survive after the move of China to break the disagreement in the city due to protest in 2019.

Beijing and Hong Kong’s government claimed that such moves were needed for national security.

The party set up a working group for the exclusion procedure. At least 75% of its members who participated in the upcoming assembly will have to approve the move before it is final. The date for that meeting is yet to be determined.

On Wednesday, Hong Konjski Government Advisor Regina IP accused the Democratic Party of spending the agenda that opposed China and “constantly creates problems within and outside Parliament.”
