Granata attack at Grenoble Bar is injured by 12

Twelve people were injured after a grenade was thrown into a traffic bar in the French city of Grenoble, local authorities said.

The incident happened at the Aksehir Bar on Wednesday night, shortly after 20:00 local time (19:00 GMT), leaving two people in a critical state.

The motive of the attack is not clear, but investigators say “it may be associated with the results.”

Prosecutor Francois Touret-de-Courcey said eyewitness accounts suggest that the suspect, who was still identified, could also wear a Kalatnikov assault rifle.

In an interview with journalists at the scene, he said, “Nothing can make us think it is related to terrorism,” describing the incident as “an act of extreme violence.”

He added that investigators look at possible relationships with drug trade.

Authorities said many people were in place, located in the city neighborhood of the Olympic village, when the suspect briefly entered.

About 80 firefighters and police officers were deployed to the scene, with the area left surrounded on Thursday morning, French work Le Figaro reports.

Deputy Mayor Chloe Pantel told AFP news agency that “the place where the locals and people outside the neighborhood are gathering, especially for watching football matches.”

The police presence in the area will remain for a while, she added.

By publishing on X, Mayor Eric Pille condemned what he described as a “criminal act of extraordinary violence” before thanking the saving and security forces “at their fast intervention”.
