Promoter Golden Boy Oscar de la Hoya on Saturday night dug a little subtle on Keyshawn Davis, saying that his fighter Oscar Duarte (29-2-1, 23 ko) managed to knock out Miguel Maduen (31-4, 28 KOS), while Keyshawn couldn’t. Not that the best rank promoted physically couldn’t knock out Maduena.
De La Hoya did not go out and utter it, but what he hints at is Duarte is a better fighter than Keyshawn. He stopped saying that, but he obviously thought that when he pointed out that Duarte was better than Keyshawn. It’s right. Duarte has made much better against Mauden than Davis.
Fear or strategy?
The power was there for that fight, but the courage is not. After tasting the power of the Mexican fighter, Keyshawn looked scared that he would be hit. So, instead of trying to knockout, he turned the fight into a WWE-TYPE match filled with wrestling tactics. The judge allowed Keyshawn to use tactics without disqualification. Last Friday Keyshawn still used the same tactic.
Last Friday, Davis won the light title WBO, Pare champion Denys Berinchyk in four rounds at the Madison Square Garden Theater in New York. Last year, July 6, Keyshawn crossed the distance of ten circles with a unanimous decision, which unanimously decided on Madueno.
Keyshawn looked like he was afraid to fight Maduen as he did as he did against Berinchyka because he could hit, and in the early rounds he was hit hard when he was arguing. Davis seemed to give up the idea after the third round when he ate some big hits from Maduen.
“Keyshawn Davis couldn’t knock out Madueño. That tells you a lot about Oscar Duarte Io Keyshawn because he won the world title last night,” Oscar de La Hoya said after a knockout victory in the seventh round of Oscar Duarte over Miguel Maduen last Saturday night.
