Former Aakash Chopra Indian cricket has a surprising choice for the next Knight Riders captain in Kalcuta. Chopra believes that Venkatesh Iyer could appear as the next captain of the franchise for the upcoming Indian Premier League season.
There are several other opportunities for the role of KKr’s captains like Ajinkya Rahana and Rink Singh. However, Aakash Chopra believes that the huge price of Venkatesh Iyer could force the franchise to make him a captain.

Aakash Chopra ignores Ajinkya Rahane and Rink Singh
Since RCB recently appointed his captain, KKR remains one of two teams that have yet to name his captain for the IPL 2025. While he spoke on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra spoke about Ajinkya Rahane’s chanses that he was a team captain, but at the end denied.
“They bought Ajinkya Rahane immediately at the end. His first -class form was very good and he played extremely well in the Syed Mushtaq but. So, so you can do ajinkya Rahane with your captain. I don’t think ajinkya can’t do ajinkya rahane will be in your thought process.
Chopra also denied Rink Singha for the role, even though he was the captain of his domestic team Uttar Pradesh. Rinka has moved to a world-class cricket under the management of KKR, and is also a key part of the Indian T20I team.
“It should be a two-horse race. It has to be either Venkatesh Iyer or Rink Singh. In my opinion, Rink Singh’s shares should have increased. He is a captain of the UP and is a suitable player. However, it doesn’t seem to be not It doesn’t seem like a real player.

Further speaking in the video, Aakash Chopra predicted that Venkatesh Iyer was the next captain KKR. Chopra thinks that the franchise spent a multitude of money on Iyer, which might encourage them to make him a captain.
“You have gone all your rifles and spent so much money on the Venkatesh Iyer to make you feel too much if you even spent too much. You may even be Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Kl Rahul, Ishan Kishan, or a few other players for it,” an former Indian opener noted.

Venkatesh iyer’s IPL numbers
Venkatesh Iyer has been with KKR since 2021. Allrounder was very impressive in the highest order in his debut IPL season and has since been a key franchise player. He played 50 games in his IPL career and scored 1326 running on average 31.57 and a strike rate of 137.12.
Iyer played knocking in the IPL 2024 final against Sunrizes Hyderabad to help Kolkat Knight Riders win the title. It reduced 52 out of only 26 balls with 4 fours and 3 six. Overall, he scored 370 driving in IPL 2024 on average 46.25 and a stop of 158.79.
