India worried about Jasprit Bumrah’s Champions Trophy chances

India are worried about Jasprit Bumrah’s availability for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which will be held in Pakistan and Dubai. Jasprit Bumrah is expected to miss the upcoming three-match ODI series against England, putting his participation in the prestigious tournament in doubt.

Bumrah was forced off the field after bowling just one ball after lunch in the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy due to a back problem. He quickly changed into his workout gear and went to the hospital with some support staff for a scan. Bumrah returned to the dressing room before the end of the match.

Fellow fast bowler Prasidh Krishna confirmed the problem during a press conference, describing it as a “back spasm”. Bumrah did not hit a single hit in the second innings. India head coach Gautam Gambhir did not give an update on the severity of the injury. Bumrah scored over 150 overs in five Tests.

According to a report by RevSportz, Jasprit Bumrah is expected to miss the upcoming three-match ODI series against England. The severity of his back injury is still unclear and will be further assessed when Bumrah returns to India.

“RevSportz has learned that he is likely to miss the upcoming three-match ODI series against England, starting February 9. It is also understood that the exact extent of Bumrah’s back injury is yet to be ascertained and will be assessed when the ace pacer returns to India.” , the report states.

Bumrah is still in Australia after the fifth and final Test in Sydney, where India lost by six wickets. Many players and support staff have faced difficulties in securing business class tickets at the last minute for their travel plans, whether going home or on holiday. Rohit Sharma, however, has already returned to India.

Yashasvi Jaiswal is expected to be the assistant opener for the Champions Trophy

Yashasvi Jaiswal is likely to be included as a backup opener, with skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill at the top of the order. Jaiswal is yet to make his debut in the 50-over format. Yashasvi Jaiswal has proved his mettle in the other two formats of the game and will be keen to put pressure on Gill.

Mohammed Siraj is expected to be rested for the T20I series but will return for the ODIs and Champions Trophy. Mohammed Shami, who has been sidelined since the 2023 ODI World Cup, is being closely monitored by the selection committee.
