Wolves’ Matheus Cunha: Nottingham Forest ready to offer club record transfer, Arsenal interested in striker | Football news
Nottingham Forest are ready to make a record bid for Wolves striker Matheus Cunha.
Forest are one of five Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, who are interested in signing the player.
It is thought that an offer of around £60m could be enough to persuade Wolves to sell.
Wolves are adamant, despite the interest, Cunha is not for sale this window.
Cunha, who has two-and-a-half years left on his contract, is a key part of Wolves’ squad as they look to fight to stay in the Premier League.
Sky Sports News understands that Wolves are relaxed about the contract situation with Cunha.
Discussions surrounding the new contract were about rewarding his form and contribution to the side over the last 12 months.
Despite the fact that a new contract has not been signed – it is understood that this has no direct impact on his future at Wolves.
Wolves are also under no financial pressure to sell Cunha – they made over £90m from the sales of Pedro Neto and Max Kilman last summer and their priority is Premier League safety.
To those interested in Cunha – the message is clear from Wolves; they have not received any offers, no other clubs have been contacted, but – most importantly – he is not for sale.
The 25-year-old is believed to be extremely upset at being criticized by manager Vitor Pereira after Wolves lost to Chelsea on Monday night. Pereira said he didn’t like Cunha’s body language.
Sky Sports News reported on Tuesday that Arsenal they are also keeping an eye on Cunha’s situation. Manchester City also had Cunha as a target, but it seems they have decided to sign him Omar Marmoush instead.
Arsenal are deprived of attacking options after serious injuries Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus – with Jesus’ knee injury that will rule him out for the rest of the season.
“I think we are very short,” Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta admitted this week.
Wolves do not want to let Cunha go because they are 17th in the Premier League table.
But Sky Sports News understands that he is unlikely to sign a new contract at Molineux.
Sum they also made a bid for Brentford’s Yoane Wiss.
But Brentford are unwilling to sell and Forest’s offer is understood to have been under £22m – far less than Brentford’s valuation of the striker.
Meanwhile, Arsenal they used both of their domestic loan slots on goalkeeper Neto from Bournemouth and Raheem Sterling from Chelsea.
This means any move for Cunha would need to be a permanent deal unless Arsenal allow one of those players to return to their parent club.
Arsenal could also sign Neto or Sterling permanently to free up a domestic loan spot.
